Watertown, SD — Watertown Shamrocks forward Cam Markham has announced today that he will be continuing his academic and hockey career at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.
“I chose Stevens Point because of the culture they have,” Markham said. “They have one of the top atmospheres in college hockey and I am super excited to join a program with a long history of winning.”
Markham led the Shamrocks in goal scoring with 22 goals in their inaugural season. He also led the team in power play goals (eight) and power play points (18) while ranking second in assists (23) and points (45).
“We’re very proud of Cam for his commitment to University of Wisconsin Stevens-Point,” said Casey Kirley, the head coach and general manager of the Shamrocks. “The Pointers are getting a proven goal scorer who can create opportunities using his speed. He was a tremendous leader and player for us in our first season, and we look forward to continuing to watch him has he grows his game and continues to advance to higher levels of hockey.”
Markham is now set to join a Pointers program that has been dominant at the NCAA DIII level over the past decade with a combined record of 201-51-23 and claiming national championships in 2016 and 2019. They compete in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
Markham is a native of Houghton, Michigan and is a 2023 graduate of Houghton High. He spent parts of three seasons in the North American Hockey League with the Shamrocks, Austin Bruins and Wisconsin Windigo where he played in 92 total games amassing 24 goals and 29 assists.
