Watertown, SD — The USHL Phase 2 Draft concluded on Tuesday evening and saw five Shamrocks skaters be selected across the 21 round draft.
Bryce Mattern (Fargo Force, Round 6, Pick 94), Carter Sproule (Waterloo Black Hawks, Round 8, Pick 133), Caz Carlson (Waterloo Black Hawks, Round 9, Pick 151), Brandt Dubey (Dubuque Fighting Saints, Round 15, Pick 245) and Justin Bartley (Waterloo Black Hawks, Round 16, Pick 256) all heard their names called.
Sproule, Dubey and Bartley were all regulars in the lineup for Watertown in their inaugural season. Sproule led the team in scoring with 48 points and 32 assists. Dubey on the blue line led all defenseman in points with 15. Meanwhile, Bartley, who joined the team late in the season after rehabbing an offseason injury, collected 11 points in 33 games and led all defenseman in points per game (0.33) and was second on the team with a +3 rating.
Mattern and Carlson were both affiliate players this season for the Shamrocks and each appeared in a handful of games. Mattern debuted in early November and played in four straight games against the North Iowa Bulls registering nine shots on goal. Carlson debuted later in the season for Watertown. He notched an assist in his debut on St. Patrick’s day against Aberdeen and then played the following weekend in a game against North Iowa.
All five players will have a chance to compete to make their respective USHL organizations opening night roster. Mattern and Carlson are also eligible to be placed on their teams affiliate lists if they do not make their opening roster.
