Watertown, SD — The Watertown Shamrocks have officially released their opening night roster ahead of their 2025-26 regular season opener against the Aberdeen Wings on Friday night. The opening night roster consists of 17 forwards, 10 defensemen, and three goaltenders.
This seasons roster features 11 players that appeared in at least one game for the Shamrocks during their innaugural season and 16 total players with North American Hockey League (NAHL) experience. In total, players on the opening night roster have totalled 719 career games, posting 81 goals and 188 assists.
“We’re feeling good about the group coming out of training camp,” said Shamrocks Head Coach and General Manager, Casey Kirley. “We have a good amount of returners from last year and other guys who have played junior hockey and are here now. We got a handful of guys back from the USHL and that’s obviously exciting for the lineup. It kind of envigorates guys heading into opening night.”
Forwards Carter Sproule, Owen Chartier, Zach Boren, Joe Rice, and Antons Macijevskis lead the charge in the forward group as the top returning point scorers from last years squad. On the blue line, Justin Bartley returns after registering 11 points in 33 games a year ago and averaging over 21 minutes of ice time a night.
Additionally, the Shamrocks have added several other key pieces with experience who are expected to provide an impact this season. Payton Struck, who was acquired via a trade during training camp, was added to the roster coming off a 22 assist season with the Minnesota Wilderness last year. Defensively, the Shamrocks welcomed in Jordan Gudridge, brother of returning goaltender Mason Gudridge, and Erick Comstock who played under Kirley in 2023-24 with the Wisconsin Windigo.
“Being able to have the opportunity to add guys who have played and had success in this league, whether that’s Payton with the Wilderness or Erick who was with Chicago all of last year or anyone, it’s great to add to our group,” Kirley added.
Both Gudridge and Comstock bring United States Hockey League (USHL) experience along with NAHL experience to the fold. Comstock spent the entirety of last season in the USHL with the Chicago Steel and has 45 points in 65 career NAHL games. Jordan Gudridge spent the 2022-23 season with the USHL’s Madison Capitols before spending the last two seasons in the NAHL and BCHL.
In net, Watertown returns Mason Gudridge who went 5-1-0-4 in his 10 starts last year posting a .933 save percentage and a 2.33 goals against average. Alongside him in goal are Jack Kavetsky and Ethan Phillips who both appeared in at least six games in the NAHL last year.
