Shamrocks Look to Capture Two Wins Against Mallards

WATERTOWN SHAMROCKS (3-8-0-0) vs. MINNESOTA MALLARDS (3-7-2-1)

The Watertown Shamrocks will travel to play the Minnesota Mallards on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Lake Sports Center. It will be the Shamrocks’ twelfth and thirteenth regular-season games of the 2025-26 season.   

 

WATERTOWN SHAMROCKS:

The Shamrocks will go into this division matchup after splitting a weekend series against the Austin Bruins. 

On Friday night, the Shamrocks got the win in thrilling fashion. After being down 1-0 for almost all of the game, defenseman Roy Chung found the back of the net for the Shamrocks with seven seconds left in the third period, sending the game to overtime. With a 4-on-3 power play opportunity, Junior Podein captured the game-winning goal for the Shamrocks, putting them on top 2-1. Goalie Mason Gudridge had 38 saves on the night to gain the win. On Saturday, the Shamrocks did not have as much luck. They were out-scored 5-2 and were unable to sweep the weekend despite 27 shots on goal. Penalties riddled the Shamrocks’ play, allowing the Bruins to capitalize on special teams.  

The Shamrocks sit at 3-7-0-0 on the season, and last place in the Central Division. 

 

MINNESOTA MALLARDS

The Mallards host the Shamrocks this weekend after splitting their weekend series against the North Iowa Bulls. 

On Friday, the Mallards hosted the Bulls and lost 6-1 at home. The Mallards’ 19 shots on net only landed them one goal in the final seconds of the second period. On Saturday, they won 6-4, scoring in the first, three goals in the second, and two in the third. 

The Mallards sit at 3-7-2-1 on the season, and in seventh place in the Central Division

 

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

SHAMROCKS:

  • Junior Podein currently leads the team in goals and points, with six goals, seven assists, and 13 total points. 
  • Carter Sproule follows him in goal and points, with five goals and 12 points, and they are tied with seven assists each.
  • Third in each category is Zach Boren, with two goals, six assists, and eight points. 

 

MALLARDS:

  • Bryce Wiitala leads the team with seven goals and 11 points on the season. 
  • Ryan George currently leads the team with nine assists on the season. 
  • Drew Bowe currently has five goals and four assists for a total of nine points on the season.
