WATERTOWN, SD. (Monday, March 17th, 2025):
The Watertown Shamrocks put up a hard-fought battle on home ice but ultimately fell to the Aberdeen Wings in a thrilling shootout, 4-3, on St. Patrick’s Day. After a scoreless first period, both teams found their offensive stride in the second, with the Shamrocks matching Aberdeen goal for goal. Cam Markham, Joseph Rice, and Brandt Dubey found the back of the net for Watertown, while Ryan Gingher and Travis Lefere contributed with key assists. The Shamrocks held their own against Aberdeen’s attack, with goaltender Mason Gudridge making 32 saves on 35 shots to keep the game within reach.
Despite pushing the game to overtime and holding strong in a tense shootout, the Shamrocks came up just short, with Aberdeen’s Sebastian Lillsund scoring the decisive goal. Watertown finished with 40 shots on goal, nearly matching Aberdeen’s 41, and capitalized on one of their two power-play opportunities. Though the loss stings, the Shamrocks continue to show resilience and improvement as they push toward the final stretch of the season. With valuable points still on the line in the Central Division standings, Watertown will look to build on this performance and break through with a win in their next matchups against the N. Iowa Bulls.
