Shamrocks to Face In-State Rival Aberdeen for Final Regular Season Set

The Watertown Shamrocks will play at home and away against the Aberdeen Wings on Friday, at 7:00 p.m., in Prairie Lakes Ice Arena, and Saturday, at 7:15 at Odde Ice Center. It will be the Shamrocks’ fifty-eighth and fifty-ninth games, and final games of the 2025-26 regular season. This is the fourth and final regular-season matchup between these teams. 

 

THIS SEASON:

So far this season, the Shamrocks have gone 3-3 against the Wings in their six games played. 

In the first set of games, the Wings swept the Shamrocks at Odde Ice Center and in Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. On Friday, after the Shamrocks started the scoring in the first period, the Wings dominated the rest of the game. With one to end the first period, three in the second, and two in the third, the Wings took a 1-6 victory. Saturday was a similar story, with the Shamrocks starting the scoring again in the first period. Four Wings’ goal in the second period gave them the lead. Despite the Shamrocks scoring two more in the third period, the Wings walked away with a 3-6 victory. 

In the third game, the Shamrocks defeated the Wings at Odde Ice Center. In this Wednesday game, the Wings netted two goals in the first period to put them up 2-0. In the second, the Shamrocks scored two of their own to make it 2-2. In the third, Owen Chartier scored two goals with Zach Boren netting one to close this game out in a 5-2 Shamrocks victory. 

In the second set of games, the Shamrocks swept the Wings at Odde Ice Center and Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. On Friday, Aberdeen went up early in the first, but the Shamrocks tied it to end the second period 1-1. The third period was back and forth, with Kyle Greene tying it up in the final seconds to send it to overtime. Joe Rice secured the Shamrocks’ 4-3 overtime victory. On Saturday, the Shamrocks shut out the Wings. Goals from Zach Boren, Owen Chartier, and Justin Obrochta helped in the 3-0 victory, along with Goalie Mason  Gudridge’s 40 saves. 

In the sixth game, the Shamrocks fell to the Wings in Prairie Lakes Ice Arena. In this St. Patrick’s Day matchup, the Wings scored the only goal of the first period, despite the Shamrocks’ best efforts. In the second, three different Wings scored three goals, but Daniel Halonen put the Shamrocks on the board to end the period. In the third, the Shamrocks tried to make a comeback but came up short in the 3-5 loss. 

 

WATERTOWN SHAMROCKS:

The Shamrocks will enter this final matchup after sweeping a two-game series against the Minnesota Mallards, 4-3 on Friday and 7-6 on Saturday. 

Friday night started with five fast goals in the first period. The Shamrocks had back-to-back goals from Justin Obrochta and Joe Rice, then the Mallards got one. Owen Chartier scored one more for the Shamrocks, and the Mallards followed up with another. Andrew Smulkstys scored one more for the Shamrocks in the second period, making it a 4-3 win. On Saturday, the scoring did not stop. The Shamrocks scored four goals in the first period, from Payton Struck, Owen Fask, and two from Joe Rice. The Mallards got three of their own in the second, with Ben Davis scoring to end the period. In the third, the Shamrocks scored two more, and the Mallards scored three more, for a final score of 7-6 Shamrocks. 

The Shamrocks have won three of their last five games and currently sit in fourth place in the Central Division. 

 

ABERDEEN WINGS

The Wings will enter this division matchup after splitting two away games against the Minot Minotauros, 2-3 on Friday and 4-3 on Saturday. 

On Friday, Minot scored the only goal of the first period, with the Wings taking the lead in the second with two goals. In the third period, Minot came back with a power play goal and a short-handed goal to take a 2-3 win. On Saturday, the Wings come out with two power play goals in the first period. They got another goal to start the second period, but Minot scored two goals in that period to make it 3-2. In the third, the Wings got one more to make it 4-2. Minot scored with less than a minute left, but the Wings held on to win this one 4-3. 

The Wings have won two of their last five games and currently sit in third place in the Central Division. 

 

PLAYERS TO WATCH:

SHAMROCKS:

  • Joe Rice has 51 points this season. He scored a goal on Friday night, then two goals and two assists on Saturday night. 
  • Owen Chartier has 39 points this year and had two goals and three assists last weekend. 
  • Brody Josselyn had four assists this weekend, with two on Friday and two on Saturday. 

WINGS:

  • Owen Pitters has 53 points this season. He had two assists on Saturday night. 
  • David Hruby has 17 points this season and scored a goal and had an assist on Friday night. 
  • Brody Dustin has 44 points this season. He assisted on three goals on Saturday night.
