Zach Boren is from Devils Lake, a town of about 8,000 in North Dakota. He started playing hockey thanks to his older brother and spent a lot of his childhood running around ice rinks. From Devils Lake, Boren moved to Fargo to play high school hockey for four years, then he started his NAHL career in New Mexico. Last year, he was traded here to Watertown.

When it comes to his game, Boren has multiple levels. Boren said, “Biggest strength has always been my passing, I’d say, using my teammates to make plays,”. That skill has been prominent this year with five assists on the season so far. Currently, Boren is playing alongside Carter Sproule and Junior Podein, a line that has produced a lot this year. Boren said, “I played with Sproule for Team North Dakota growing up, so we’ve always had good chemistry, and then Podes, he’s just a puck hound and likes to make plays, likes to play offense. It’s been a good connection.”.

Here in Watertown, the Shamrocks take pride in having a close, tight-knit community. These ideals translate over to the team on the ice. Boren credits their team dynamic to spending lots of time together on and off the ice. Boren said, “I think it’s being with each other. We spend what, four hours a day together. And I mean, a lot of times we’re hanging out after at a billet’s house or doing a team event. So I think you hang out and you get to know the guys and you get to love them and love playing with them,”.

Echoing other players, Boren also has his eyes on the Robertson Cup. Boren said, “I mean, team goal definitely playoffs, we want to be in the hunt and have a spot to compete for the Robertson Cup“. Personally, Boren is looking to be a productive player for his team. Boren said, “Personally, I’m looking at trying to get a point per game and do the best I can,”.

In Boren’s eyes, Watertown is one of the best places to play junior’s. Boren said, “The support we get from the fans, we go out to eat for lunch, someone will say something like ‘good job this weekend’ and it’s awesome and it means everything.”.

Thank you to Zach for sitting down with me!
