Watertown, SD — Watertown Shamrocks forward Spencer Sasenbury officially announced his commitment today to play college hockey at Division III SUNY Canton.
Sasenbury, who was acquired via trade in November from the Lone Star Brahmas where he won a Robertson Cup, will join the Kangaroos who compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).
“The Kangaroos are getting a proven winner in Spencer,” Head Coach and General Manager Casey Kirley said. “He knows what it takes to have success both individually and as a team. A Robertson Cup winner, Spencer has worked to grow the offensive side of his game this year and it showed with his ability to score goals the second half of the season. We look forward to watching him continue to grow his game at the collegiate level with SUNY-Canton.”
The Fayetteville, New York native scored seven goals and three assists after January 1st, despite missing over a month with an injury in that same time frame. In total, Sasenbury recorded eight goals and three assists in 32 total games in a Watertown jersey.
“Coming in and getting a big role here, I thought I did pretty good coming into the second half becoming more of a goal scorer,” Sasenbury said following the season. “Having that older role here was a lot of fun and it was great.”
Prior to joining the Shamrocks, Sasenbury won the 2024 Robertson Cup with the Lone Star Brahmas. Additionally, he spent time in youth playing for North Shore Academy AAA, Boston Hockey Academy AAA, Utica Jr. Comets AAA, and Fayetteville-Manlius High.
