WATERTOWN SHAMROCKS:
The Shamrocks will enter this division matchup after sweeping a three-game Thanksgiving road trip.
Last Wednesday, the Shamrocks kicked off their road trip against the Aberdeen Wings with a 5-2 victory. This is Watertown’s first franchise victory over its in-state rival. The Wings’ only two goals came in the first period, with the Shamrocks owning the rest of the game. Erick Comstock and Justin Obrochta scored in the second period to tie the game at two, then Owen Chartier scored two goals and Zach Boren scored the team’s fifth to give them the victory.
The Shamrocks then traveled to Minot to play two games against the Minotauros. The Shamrocks captured both games with decisive 7-4 and 8-2 wins. On Friday, the Shamrocks and Tauros ended their first period tied, but the Shamrocks had four different goal scorers to dominate the second. The Minotauros tried to stage a comeback in the third with three more goals, but the Shamrocks held strong for the 7-4 win. On Saturday, the Shamrocks had four goals in the first period with three different goal scorers to make it an early 4-0 lead. With a goal in the second and three more goals in the third, the Shamrocks were able to secure a 8-2 win.
This will be the Shamrocks first matchup against the Bulls this season. They have won four of their last five games, currently sit fourth in the Central Division.
NORTH IOWA BULLS
The Bulls host the Shamrocks after playing a set of games against the Austin Bruins, one home game and one away game, on Wednesday and Thursday. Their Saturday game against the Mallards was postponed.
The Bulls were swept this past weekend by the Bruins, 5-7 on Wednesday and 2-5 on Thursday. Wednesday night, Austin had three fast goals in the first to take the lead, with North Iowa scoring the last goal at 3:14 on the power play. The Bulls then had 3 goals in the second period, two power play goals and one short-handed goal, but the Bruins had four more goals to secure their win. On Thursday, the Bruins dominated play again. The Bulls’ goals in the first and third were not enough to hold off the Bruins’ two goals in the first, one in the second, and two in the third.
